Coast Ecotourism Special Safari - 8 Days
Day 1: Mombasa - Wasini
On arrival at the Airport, be met and transferred driven across
the ferry and further south to Shimoni. Board a boat to Wasini,
an island with neither road nor running water, with Swahili and
Muslim ruins, giving you a chance to explore the Swahili culture.
Gourmet lunch will be served at the restaurant.
Snorkeling and other sea sports will be followed by supper and overnight
in a local hotel .Spend the day relaxing at leisure on the beach.
Day 2: Mombasa / Shimoni
After breakfast leave for Shimoni arriving early in the morning
to explore the slave caves and the remnants of the 1st British colonial
administration building then head northwards arriving for lunch
on the Mombasa Island. After lunch proceed on a tour of Mombasa,
where you’ll explore Fort Jesus monument and the old town
of Mombasa. A visit to the Akamba woodcarving factory, (the largest
in East Africa) is included. Dinner and overnight in Sun and Sand
Beach Hotel.
Day 3: Jumba / Takaungu
After breakfast visit Jumba ruins for more evidence of slave trade
along the coast of East Africa. Continue further North to arrive
at Takaungu-supposedly the oldest slave port in Kenya. Lunch will
be followed by excursion at this wonderful tranquil and tireless
atmosphere. Dinner and overnight at Takaungu House.
Day 4: Kilifi / Gede / Watamu
After breakfast drive to Kilifi, entering the Mnarani Museum for
more of your explorations of the coast. Tour will take you to the
mysterious underground slave store, deep and old Arab wells and
the unexcavated ruins of the Arab Swahili town of the 13th century.
You also have an opportunity to view the creek.
Proceed then further north arriving at the famous
Gede museum for lunch at the Museum restaurant. Explore then the
mysterious ruins of the 13th century city that was abandoned in
the 17th century, now with mysteries of ghosts. If you are lucky
you may see one of the smallest five animals-The Elephant shrew
which has made home in the ruins before heading to Watamu Marine
Park for snorkeling and other sea sports. Dinner and overnight at
the Watamu Marine Bandas.
Day 5: Malindi / Tana delta
After breakfast drive to Malindi for a city tour taking you to the
famous Vasco da Gama’s 14th century monument, the 1st Christian
Church in East Africa built by the Portuguese in the 14th century
and the Malindi Falconry before continuing to the Tana delta camp
arriving in time for lunch. Tana delta camp is an unusual camp place,
very unique, isolated and unspoilt. A mixture of beach and creek,
sand beaches and mangrove-lined water ways will give you chances
of viewing wild game such as buffalo, topi and watebuck. Dinner
and overnight at the Eden Roc Hotel.
Day 6: Mombasa
After breakfast drive back to Mombasa spending the rest of the day
at leisure with lunch, dinner and overnight at the North Coast Beach
Hotel.
Day 7: Mombasa / Bush Tour
After breakfast we depart on a bush tour, which takes us to villages
to participate in cultural and traditional activities. Here you
can sample traditional beer and local fare. Lunch will be seafood
in a local restaurant. Transfer back to your beach hotel for dinner
and overnight.
Day 8: Mombasa
Breakfast and transfer to the airport depending on your home-bound
flight schedule.
